ROAD TRIP UPDATE!!!

October 8th, 2008

The Tiger 1000 Road Trip proved to be a great success!

After a hectic weekend of heavy lifting and loading combined with fun and great camaraderie the team of volunteers managed to secure a fantastic selection of items for the G G Marvin Memorial Hospital.

In fact, everyone worked so hard to fill every inch of space in the container that unfortunately, it ended up being too heavy for the transport company to lift.

With the help of a new band of volunteers including Frans and Daisy Staats, Martijn Staats, Brenno Visser, Bas van Wijk, Ria and Wim Staats and their friends, another whole weekend was spent unpacking, then moving and repacking the container. The only items not re-packed were several heavy fireproof doors, and the final contents are as follows:

29 bed frames

29 mattresses

240 door hinges

41bedside tables

20 washbasins and taps

110 chairs, tables, cupboards,

medicine trolleys and lots more!

In addition there have been further generous donations of computers etc

Since the trip, talks have taken place between the charity trustees and CEVA Logistics (formerly TNT) to discuss the possibility of them offering help with  transporting the container from Holland overland to Ghana.  We are hopeful of a positive outcome from our meeting and will keep you all updated as soon as we have more news.

In the meantime, many thanks to all the volunteers who helped to make the trip memorable as well as successful.

TODDLERS RAISE £300

October 8th, 2008

A ‘big’ thank you to the ‘little’ toddlers of Watermead Day Nursery in Nanpantan.

With the help of Nursery Manager, Kerry Spencer, they took part in a sponsored toddle in the summer and managed to raise the amazing sum of £300.  Kerry has very kindly pledged to continue helping Friends of Ashanti with future fund raising – so watch this space for updates from our youngest group of sponsors.

The photo shows some of the toddlers pictured with Donna Gibb and Chris Marvin in the foreground
